近年来，在国家农机购置与应用补贴政策的强力拉动下，湖北省积极争取省级财政专项支持，不断加大农机研发制造投入力度，强化科技创新驱动，研发制造能力不断增强，为全面推进乡村振兴和加快建设农业强省提供了重要支撑。
从2022年开始，湖北实施农机装备补短板行动，累计投入6000万元，重点支持33个“产学研推”联合技术攻关项目。部分农机企业会同高校和科研院所开展联合攻关，产品科技含量不断提升、产品质量不断提高、品牌效应不断增强。
装备研发取得初步成效，基于北斗技术的多功能复合式智能精准变量施肥播种机研发及推广应用项目，提高了播种作业机具智能化水平，提升了播种作业质量和效率，助力粮油单产提升行动。
水产品（淡水鱼、小龙虾、鳝鳅）加工关键技术与装备研发及推广应用项目，艾草鲜叶脱叶短板机具研发及应用项目等，较好弥补了湖北农机化发展领域的一些短板弱项，发挥了示范引领作用。
